Alfa Romeo has taken a bold step into the electric future with their first-ever electric SUV, initially dubbed the Milano. But in a swift move, just a week after its grand debut in early April 2024, Alfa decided to rebrand this trailblazing vehicle as the Junior. It's a name that packs a punch and hints at the youthful, dynamic energy this SUV brings to the road.
Meet the Junior
The Junior is more than just a name; it's a statement. With the first customer models expected to hit the streets by summer, anticipation is high. Starting today, the compact SUV is available for order, and it promises to be a head-turner. In Germany, the initial offering is the "Speciale" model, loaded with features like 18-inch wheels, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a leather steering wheel, and a driver's seat with massage function. Priced at €31,500 for the mild hybrid version, the electric version commands a premium, starting at €41,500.
Electric Dreams and Pricing Schemes
By June, the Junior will also be available in a base version, starting at €29,500 for the mild hybrid and €39,500 for the electric model. And for those seeking the ultimate Alfa experience, the top-tier Veloce model starts at €48,500. Built on a Stellantis platform and sharing some DNA with the Opel Mokka and Peugeot 2008, the Junior is distinctly Alfa with its unique design and signature features.
Design Delight
Alfa's design team, led by Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, has crafted a masterpiece in just eight months. The Junior sports three light bars on each side, with matrix LED main headlights nestled below. A small revolution in design comes with the Scudetto grille. With Alfa's plan to offer only electric models by 2027, the traditional grille is becoming obsolete. The Junior offers two Scudetto variations: the "Leggenda" with the Alfa script for the base model and the "Progresso" featuring the iconic Alfa insignia for higher trims. Mesonero-Romanos prefers the Progresso and addressed the centrally positioned license plate, a nod to pedestrian safety regulations, though it stirred some controversy among Alfa purists.
A Rear to Remember
The rear design is inspired by the classic Giulia TZ, featuring a dark "Codatronca" design element that gives the Junior a unique look from behind. The flat rear window conceals a generous 400-liter trunk, making it a practical choice for its class.
The Alfa Romeo Junior is not just an electric vehicle; it's a symbol of Alfa's commitment to innovation and style. As the brand charges towards an electric future, the Junior leads the way, proving that you can embrace new technology without losing the essence of what makes Alfa Romeo so beloved.
